Moderation over Christmas/New Year period. 6 years 11 months ago #14095

Hi All,

By now, you should all have received Steve Donnisons's Christmas Newsletter by e-mail.

I'd specifically draw your attention to the paragraph below and respectfully request that members carry out Steve's wishes.

At times we’ve had more moderators battling with serious illness than not. But apparently it takes more than a mere clamped-on oxygen mask, broken bones, hospital admission or sudden full-time caring responsibilities to keep our moderators from reaching for their laptops and offering support to fellow claimants.

So a big thank you to Jim, Pat, Crazy Diamond, Pete, Gareth, Charlie, Indieames and Mr B – we’d all be much worse off without you.

And, because we’d like our mods to have a proper break over Christmas, we’d be really grateful if everyone could save any non-urgent queries until 4th January or later.

We’ll be back again in the New Year.

Good luck,

Steve & Holiday

Many thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

Jim

Hi Boris,

Not sure what's happened, all members should be automatically e-mailed all Steve's Newsletter's

I've posted my copy below :

Happy Christmas from all at Benefits and Work

Dear Jim,

Just a quick email to say that we hope you have a happy and peaceful Christmas and to thank you for your continued support for the Benefits and Work website throughout a challenging year.

It’s certainly been a tough year for many claimants. The first full year of employment and support allowance has brought misery for many. In addition, the credit crunch and the subsequent rise in unemployed jobseekers has led to a dramatic worsening of the service provided by the DWP to sick and disabled claimants.

The assault on DLA and AA in the Care green paper came as a horrible surprise to most of us. But, on the bright side, the huge and spirited response from claimants undoubtedly took the government by surprise.

Next year, with a Care white paper, an election and, in all probability, the first attempts to assess incapacity benefit claimants under the harsher work capability assessment, promises to be no easy ride either.

But we hope that the growing sense of community of Benefits and Work members and the first stirrings of a sense that, together, we can actually make a difference will give us some grounds for hope for 2010.

Finally, Holi and I would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone involved with the site, but most especially to our volunteer forum moderators.

At times we’ve had more moderators battling with serious illness than not. But apparently it takes more than a mere clamped-on oxygen mask, broken bones, hospital admission or sudden full-time caring responsibilities to keep our moderators from reaching for their laptops and offering support to fellow claimants.

And, because we’d like our mods to have a proper break over Christmas, we’d be really grateful if everyone could save any non-urgent queries until 4th January or later.

We’ll be back again in the New Year.

Good luck,

Steve & Holiday

Over the Christmas/New Year period most moderators will not be online, so there will be delays in responding to queries.

Most DWP offices close at noon Christmas Eve, and don't reopen until after New Year, so we have no way of contacting the DWP or other agencies.

Therefore, can we ask members to be patient waiting for replies to benefits queries, and expect long delays over the Christmas/New Year period and not to post unless it's for 'chit chat' or extremely urgent queries as was requested by Steve Donison the site owner in the latest newsletter.

Happy Christmas & New Year to all.
