TOPIC: Income support and ESA

Income support and ESA 6 years 11 months ago #14168

I have been receiving incapacity benefit and DLA for some time, and struggling financially. After recently taking advice from an expert, I discovered I was also eligible for income support. I applied and now get £48 extra a week. This has made a huge difference to me. When I am moved on to ESA ( providing I`m not miraculously found capable of work), will I lose this extra money entirely?

In answer to your question, much will depend on the outcome of the ESA medical assessment prior to your migration to the allowance, and whether you are placed in the work-related activity group, the support group or indeed if you fail to qualify for ESA under the much harsher conditions of entitlement.

The date of migration for existing IB claimants to ESA has not as yet been announced by the government.
