Hi Michael,

You may be eligible for a Cold Weather Payment for each week of very cold weather in your area if you get Pension Credit or income-related Employment and Support Allowance with a support or work related activity component in the main phase.

Full details are on the DirectGov website Cold Weather Payments

For those over 60 years of age, they receive a Winter Fuel Allowance. This year it was £250.00. However, despite intensive campaigning, this allowance is not paid to those under 60 years of age, even if they have a severe disability.

Happy New Year.

Jim and Pat

Yes, you will be able to qualify for a cold weather payment as any amount of IS received entitles you to a CWP.

Further details are available HERE.

Hi Jim,

Ultimately our posts informed the OP of the same outcome referring to the Directgov website.

The family had a quiet Christmas and New Year, but my birthday in the interim period was more hectic. This was brought about by the continuing severe snowy, icy and freezing weather which meant that getting anywhere fast, if at all, was problematic. It certainly added spice to the occasion!

Hope that both you and Pat also had a pleasant Christmas and New Year?

In reciprocation, all the best for 2010.

Regards,
CD
