TOPIC: winter fuel allowance

winter fuel allowance 6 years 9 months ago #14542

I have not received my WFA but was not unduly worried as their website says that it would take to Christmas to clear them up.I rang the helpline this morning and was shocked to be told that I would have to ring the Dreaded ESA as I have been claiming from them since April and at present am appealing their disallowing my claim. It seems that they are responsible for paying me the WFA! Do you you mean Cold Weather Payment, as there is no benefit called Winter Fuel Allowance, its called Winter Fuel Payment (WFP)

WFP is paid to those over 60 years of age, and this year was £250.00 per household. I received mine in late November. Those over 80 years of age, received £400 this year. Both are 'one off' payments.

Cold Weather Payment is paid when the temperature in your area drops to 0 C or lower for a week or more and should be paid automatically for those on means-tested benefits this year it's £25 per week for each week the temperature in your local is 0C or less.

However, all the UK have had temperatures well below 0 C over the last few weeks, so there are likely to be delays in processing and receiving Cold Weather Payments.

Further information on the DirectGov website Cold Weather Payments

and Winter Fuel Payment

Hope this helps.
