TOPIC: Contribution-based ESA

Contribution-based ESA 6 years 10 months ago #14917

Hello. I currently live on contribution based Incapacity Benefit which is topped up by income support along with disability premiums. I am a single parent.

I have just read the highly informative and helpful new bulletin on BAW about the latest plans to transfer IB claimants. It says: "Claimants who were previously getting incapacity benefit or SDA will have their benefit converted to contribution-based ESA. Claimants who are getting income support will have their benefit converted to income-related ESA"

So, if I am found to be eligable for ESA (I'm not currently subject to the PCA because I receive DLA HRC, so goodness only knows when I would be assessed, presumably when the DLA award is up for renewal), would I receive contribution-based ESA or income-related ESA? I am confused about this.

Oh, and by the way, I would also have to fight vigorously if necessary to go into the support group because of the difficulties of my illness which would make working in an open environment extremely difficult and embarrassing to say the least. I would hope that they would see this in the medical records they already hold, a dim hope, but a hope nonetheless.

Thank you for any answers.

All the best,
K

Hi,

As and when you are migrated, it is possible to receive Contributory ESA topped up with an Income Related ESA element (in much the same as currently with IB topped up with IS).
