Attendance allowance claim???? was created by karene50
Hi.

Wonder if you can help me?

My mum is 73 and claims attendance allowace low rate as she has a heart problem, diabities and a problem with her sight.

My dad is 76 and for a few years now has had health problems ie polymyalgia, AMD in both eyes (nearly blind in one eye)and emphasimia.

Very proud man my dad and wont ask for help off anyone.

I was wondering would he also be able to claim Attendance allowance as well as my mum?

Thanks

Karen

If you go to the home page, then to DLA, then to the members' section, you will find at the top of the page a link to download info on how to make a claim for AA on physical grounds. It's got useful stuff in it to help you work out whether you might be entitled. I found the DLA equivalent really helpful.

Hi Karen,

Just to add that there's nothing to prevent both members of a couple claiming AA - it's very commonly the case.

Good luck,

Steve

Thanks for that steve and survivor dad has another hospital appt in a week or so for a scan on his lungs so will wait and then send off for a claim form and will sit him down until he fills it in.

Thanks again.

Hi Karen,

I'd get a claim form as soon as possible by calling the Benefits Enquiry Line free on 0800 882200.

The success rate for AA claims is currently around 77%, (if all information received correctly for decision) and turn around about 6 weeks on average, much higher and faster than DLA claims.

You can always put on the claim form that he's due a lung scan in a couple of weeks and send in the results later.

Good luck.

Pat

A big fat NO.

Since i filled the form in for my dad he had tests done and he has renal cancer sent this onto them but still a big fat No.

Told dad we would appeal it but he just hasnt got the energy to appeal and has told me to leave it.

Feel like crying for him.
