DLA & Tax credits was created by smashee72
Hi all

I have been recieving HRM DLA as I have always had problems walking. I have had
my award since 1995 and was awarded indefinately.
I am aware DLA is not means tested so Ive not
informed them that because of severe financial probs I have taken a part time job for 16 hours a week.
also Im very bored at home.
I phoned tax credits to inform them and they advised that I am entitled to the disability element of working tax and I was pleased to hear that this will make a substantial change in our income. What im worried about is - I know tax credits have to verify my DLA award - will they notify DLA that I am working, and if so - will that prompt a review of my award. As it happens I have only been at the job 2 weeks and I feel I have bitten off a bit more than I can chew, physically I am struggling. Any advise welcome
Linda

Hi Linda,

Claimants of DLA are entitled to work, so long as the work they do is not inconsistent with an award of DLA.

For example, a claimant in receipt of DLA HRM working in a job that involves a lot of walking.

Thanks, but does anybody know whether HRMC will automatically inform
DLA, my worry is that DLA will review my case and they could question my award. I am working in a hotel, I thought I could handle it but there is more more walking than i anticipated. This is my 3rd week and im giving my notice in as im in pain all the time now, when im off its worse because I stiffen up and feel totally crippled. My limp is markedly worse
than it was before
So I guess maybe my hopes were high that I could make a few bob, the work is probably inconsistent with an award of DLA but I wasnt really aware of that when I started but im paying for it pain wise now im worried that all this will be held against me

Hi,

I'm not aware if HMRC inform the DLA Unit. Although I doubt it, as the DWP don't seem able to communicate with their own different departments.

As you've now given your notice, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Best wishes.

Thanks Jima1, I handed in notice today and I have to put it in writing that I am leaving on health grounds so that is always evidence in the future if need be

Regards, Linda
