i've asked both my gp's if they have been asked anything about me for a dss/atos medical. they said they have not. the only reports they have done on me is the 1's i have asked for based on the xrays etc i have had.

Thanks for your input tb. Must admit it is new to us as over the years he has had many IIB medicals/appeals - almost all ending badly I would add - but never contacted GP before. I can only assume because his cause for sick leave is written down as depression, yet it is due to many underlying physical problems, that they may be looking at his history in greater detail - which is fine to us I would add. Lets just hope they use the information correctly!

I keep getting 'false hopes' and I know I shouldn't with DWP, thinking that the fact they are looking may mean he isn't going to be thrown out immediately with his claim and hopeful he may be put straight into support group. I know, I know, silly me and probably just lining us up for another 'fall' but with all the flack he's taken these last months, I am just clutching at straws hoping things will go right for him - for once.

Oh forgot to update on the pathways interviews too. I think thats where the DWP optimism is coming from - as his second interview ended with the lady saying she didn't need to see him again as he was doing everything in his power (and beyond) to make himself well again - physically and mentally - and she didnt want him to have to worry about pathways too. She was really nice and even, disappointingly, went through what we should do when he has to appeal his ESA medical!! How's that for confidence in the system? However, I suppose if he gets knocked back AGAIN with ESA medical, no doubt we will be visiting her again!

Again, if anyone knows the basis of the GP requirements for these medicals, advice is appreciated.

Hi there

My experience with what information gp has to supply is, when atos wrote to gp the wordind was quite misleading and only asked about my accident re broken arm and although my gp did mention crohn's, hypertension, diabetes, depression and osteoporosis this wasnt used by atos dr. I was initially refused esa but this was overturned before appeal once my gp gave a full report on all of the above and how they affect me. I dont blame my gp one bit after i read the form that my gp 1st replied to. Even my gp was angry that they had totally dismissed or failed to acknowledge the other problems that i had. My only advice is to ask your gp to give as full a report as possible on the atos questionaire even if they are only asking about 1 particular illness. I wish you all the very best. God bless x

Thanks adamant and Julie. I will look at the questionnaire as you mentioned and yes Julie, I am sure the form will be very prescriptive. We will soon find out I suppose  come 12.30 tomorrow. Or not really, will have to await decision letter - which really seem to come out quick when you are being knocked back don't they???

To add insult to injury (no pun intended) he received today his appeal papers for IIB (no letter beforehand saying decision upheld) saying his bursitis was worth 10% but they have deducted more than half for arthritis which even according to x-rays and medical reports is 'minimal' and conducive with normal ageing process - and despite a three inch lump and constant swelling on both knees, is just NOT enough to get him over the 14% for a pension.......so off we go again.

I appreciate everyones input, it makes it easier knowing people are at least listening and understand what we are going through. :)
