IB50 success

IB50 success was created by Jellicle
My long-term IB came up for normal review in 2010 and my spouse handed in my completed IB50 exactly one week ago today. I have just received the decision letter telling me that my benefits will continue and will be reviewed again in 2013. I am completely amazed. In the light of the adverse publicity about getting claimants back to work, I was fully expecting to have to attend a medical and to go to appeal. In fact I had already begun to plan my appeal. My disability is a mental health one and I'm completely accustomed to the scepticism with which these conditions are regarded.

The money I spent on my Benefits and Work subscription was not easy to find, but I'm convinced that the information generously provided on this site was integral to my successful claim. I have recommended the site far and wide for several years, even to my doctor for the potential information of other patients.

In completing the form, I decided to put my subjective and emotional thoughts to one side and to try to ignore the huge anxiety I was feeling. I treated it as a professional assignment, assembled the evidence, wrote and stapled to the form a 3(!)page criterion-referenced document detailing exactly how my condition impacts on my life, and tried to review it objectively before submission.

I couldn't have done that without the B&W resources and also without reading other people's contributions to the forum.

Meanwhile I am extremely bitter and very, very angry about the hype with with the red-top media and the Spending Challenges website have joyously demonised people like me and you. The stigmatising language dismissing us as sub-human scroungers has upset me terribly, has impacted on my fragile mental health, has rocked my self-esteem, has awakened my night-time terrors and has made me timid in the face of exposure. Thank goodness for people like Alistair Campbell who have the confidence to speak out and the ear of the media. It should not be necessary in a compassionate society.

I shall use what skills I have to seek the ears of opinion formers and support the organisations who are pressing for a better welfare climate.

That is very encouraging news. I am waiting for my IB50 review and with mental health problems it is no joke.I'm already writing down what I plan to say on the form -for me to prepare in advance is the only way to try and keep the anxiety under some sort of control.

Hi

Well done i bet that is a great weight off your mind. I give all the credit to B&W moderators and members for getting me the benefits that are rightfully mine. I am the same as you i have recomended this site to many people, in fact i helped a friend to join up successfully on wednesday. I know she will get all the help to get her through the change from IB to ESA as i know she is extremly worried about the process.

Hi, Well done this site is a Must in the present climate because it guides you through all the possible pit falls you come up against. If you tell the truth and go into great detail about your condition/s. (something that i was too ashamed to do at one point to my cost) but if you tell it has it is and you have supporting medical evidence you can not go far wrong. I will always be grateful to this site and the Mods for their advice even though they are sometimes poorly themselves. Best wishes
