I have an IBD Ulcerative Colitis my Dr wrote a letter to the hospital and I spent 5 days on an IV Drip I get stomach camps then I have to get to the toilet immediately.

Also I have Prostate hypertrophy and tend to leak if I do not get to the toilet as well I explained this in my form but in their wisdom I can still make it to the medical centre.

I know I will have an accident and end up in a mess at the medical.

this is so embarressing for me.i have IBS and most days don't make the toilet because of the intense pain. and then the full accident. My specialist states in his letter i should wear a pad.i have tried to find where i can get pads for bowel incontinence[are these the same as for bladder troubles].was discharged from the hospital a couple of years ago as nothing else can be done apart from taking the usual buscopan and imodian.
thanks for any advice.

You can buy pads, but you can also get a limited supply on the NHS if you contact your GP. You will probably be referred to a nurse and asked to monitor your stools for a week or so using something called the Bristol Chart. The nurse you see should also be able to give you some advice about buying extra pads. You can also find suppliers by searching the internet.

I know it can feel embarassing, but your GP won't be embarassed by it and you don't need to feel embarassed on here or on other sites where people there are lots of disabled people.

Hi All,

Having had MS since 1982, I suffer from incontinence both bladder and bowels from time to time. This is often the pattern for MS.

If I need incontinence pads, or special condoms which attach to a urine collection bag, I get all my equipment free of charge via our hospital's Urodymanics Dept.

I'm not sure if all NHS Trusts provide a free service, like many areas, it could be post code lottery.

My advice before paying for incontinence aids would be to contact you local GP, since it they who negotiate these matters.

Kind regards.

Jim
