I'd also like to mention that is qualitatively different to be open and honest about being bipolar than it is to label oneself schizophrenic.

For professionals, it is synonymous with brain damage; for the press, with violence and for the public, with 'nutter'.

Labeling oneself is one thing, forcing one to do so quite another.

True enough, I mentioned that in my 'overlong' post, but my point is, given that the DWP knows the prognosis of those with Sz,

www.dwp.gov.uk/publications/specialist-g...gnosis-and-duration/

should those with this diagnosis be placed in a position where they have to show the glass 'half empty'?

It's a hard call but IMO I think the answer is yes, but not the way things are done at present, everyone should have one main medical by GP and someone from the DWP at this stage the form will have an area where how future contact is made to check on changes to the person claiming ESA or DLA

If the way things have been done in the past is known not to be in the persons best interest then after the first in depth medical ... a named dr or nurse is where they go to get up to date medical information, and only if then there cause to think that they are no longer have a right or need for that benefit a form should be sent first to the dr asking to give more info based on what they had just reported and only after that should some one be called for a medical

there are many people who would not need this protective wall

but for some it might help them recover if not stressed by atos and the dwp :)
