Permitted work - ESA was created by Ranald
Hello guys.
I have been reading up on permitted work and it seems i can earn up to £93 per week for 52 weeks but will this have a bearing on my housing benefit and council tax benefit?
If this is the case then i am discouraged from doing anything in case my "limited capability for work" is called into question.
I really do want to do a few hours a week, even voluntary but perhaps it is not always a good idea to be seen to be too willing? What does anyone think?

Ranald.

Hi Ranald,

There is a lot of information in the members area regarding work, and what may/maynot be counted as permitted work.

Link here:

Well worth a read.

Thanks pete, i had already read that information and that is what has confused me! ;)

I seem to find conflicting information from various sources, typical of the system i suppose...

Hi Ranald,
the biggest effect upon other benefits ( HB,CTB) seems to depend whether Your E.S.A is contribution or income based.

Hi Ranald

Assuming you are in the LCW group, one thing you need to consider is how the nature of your work may affect the points you scored in your last medical.

I have previously been stripped down to just 2 points in the PCA, largely because I spent several hours a day studying on a computer. I would presume getting a part-time job using a computer would have had the same effect.

On the other hand if you have physical disabilities such as walking, using a computer is not likely to have an effect on the number of points that you score, at least as far as I can see.
