Hi Angelcake, really good news and I hope everything starts to go your way from now. Thankyou for advice, I will ask GP about CBT next time I see him. All the best,

Thanks! Good luck too, it is sooo stressful, I know. As regards the treatment, maybe I should push for another talking treatment like you say.

Cheers

Hi Rachel, I am in a similar situation and have a medical coming up too. I can't take the antidepressant which helps me, fluoxetine (prozac) as it is not compatable with breastfeeding, and the others cause me bad side efeects, making the anxiety worse. I wasn't sure like yourself whether it would go against me not to be taking any, and thought about taking the last prescription along, from last year, for another SSRI the GP prescribed but then it would date from last year! Looks like after reading this I might just explain about the breastfeeding and that I am going to try prozac again in the future when I stop the breastfeeding. It's tricky isn't it. My GP also talked about St John's wort maybe that would help you? He says that also might not be suitable for me though.. I hae done CBT too with the health visitor but didn't help much, and was offered 5 counselling sessions but the counsellor wasn't keen for me to bring my baby and as with postnatal depression, I was anxious not to leave him, so that didn't help much either! Know what you mean about parenting... I keep trying to live in the moment and enjoy them but find being a mum makes me much more anxous than before.

Hi Sarah, I'm so sorry you are suffering; postnatal depression is the pits. Although I was diagnosed with depression before I had children I didnt go on anti depressants until after I had my third child and was bouncing off the walls! I had to stop breast feeding her to do this which was so sad but I did breastfeed my fourth while on antidepressants. I am still on antidepressants 13 years later and still very much need them. I have my doubts about CBT or counselling. If they offer you a set amount of appointments, are they saying you will be better ie; in five sessions time?!!
My children are the reason I keep on going and I have to say being a mouther, although extremely hard and worrying is the best thing in the world. I wish you all the best and hope you get some decent medical care.
