IB review - reawarded for 3 years was created by mermaid
Just wanted to thank Benefits and Work once again for the help I was able to pass onto my husband when he did his forms a few months back for his IB review.

Yes, he is 64 and we did hope that common sense would prevail, but knowing the DWP we had no confidence that they would not call him for a medical before he reached 65 (April 2011).

Anyway he did the forms very carefully this time with the help of B & W booklet on IB ... previous times he has got the benefit but only after a medical.

Yesterday the brown envelope came ... big relief he was awarded it for 3 years, (without a medical this time) which is kind of funny as he is getting his State Pension next year.

Yes he is certainly one of the lucky ones in the system which is about to change so drastically.

Your husband's IB will cease the day before his 65th birthday, and State Pension will be paid from the date he reaches 65. SP is normally paid 4 weekly, so will receive 13 payments each year.

He should by now have received a state pension forecast, and a leaflet on Pension Credit.

If not, he should contact The Pension Service without delay.

Thank you Jim for your reply.
He hasn't received anything yet from the Pension service but I did look online for him and it says that he should hear 4 months before the pension is due.

He did have a pension forecast a long time ago, but I will make sure that he does another one in the next few weeks.

Given, as you say, that the IB will cease the day before his 65th birthday, it does seem even more strange that they awarded it to him for 3 years, as they only had to look at his d.o.b to see that was not appropriate.
