Followed all your advice to the letter and sent in the new mammoth forms. Am delighted to get HRC indefinitely, as well as continuing with the LRM indefinitely..

Still not considered "blind enough" to get HRM despite other mobility problems, but will not challenge this decision as am v. satisfied with HRC. Maybe will have another bash after April 2011 - the big date for us VIPs (visually impaired people) before I drop off their tree as I reach my 65th birthday in the summer.

A huge thankyou for your comprehensive guides. I would have been overwhelmed without your assistance and couldn't have done it without you.

Good luck to all you other contestants out there!

see below

Someone will be taken as having a "severe visual impairment" if they have been certified as severely visually impaired by a consultant ophthalmologist AND have a visual acuity of less than 3/60 OR if they have a visual acuity of 3/60 or more, but less than 6/60, a complete loss of peripheral field and a central visual field restricted to no more than 10 degrees in total. These two routes to entitlement encompass all those people who come within the following categories of sight impairment:

•no perception of light
•perception of light only
•perception of hand movement: and
•a visual acuity of 3/60 with a total or extensive loss of field.
