ESA help please was created by Judy
My daughter has been put into the Support group and has been in this group for 5 months now, Friday morning she received the ESA(Y)22 form.

It says that she is coming to the end of her qualifying period of 13 weeks (?????) And when does she want to claim ESA from.

When I rang Sheffield this morning they said that the form was sent to her because they wanted to know whether she wants to stay on the ESA that you get free prescriptions and dental care or does she want to go on to Contributions ESA, where the prescriptions etc are not free. Confused? I was by now because the form had nothing like that in it to say this.

They said that she may want to opt for the contribution ESA as when she decides to leave home or if she has a big payment (?) then she would lose her ESA. Totally confused by now, can anyone really tell me why she was sent this form please. They said if we don't want to change anything then to disregard it totally. Sheeesh!

I think your daughter has been receiving ESA for the Young and has now reached an age where she can claim ESA as an adult.

The choice they are asking her to make is whether to receive Contribution Based ESA or to continue with the Income Related ESA she is currently receiving.

There are differences between the two as to how income is treated and what other benefits she might be eligible for.

I think the best advice we can give is for you to see your local CAB or Welfare Rights office, so that you can get a full understanding of what the decision involves.

Yes she gets the Youth ESA but she is still only 21 and still qualifies for it. Thank you for your reply Gordon it does help.
