DLA result! I no longer fear the brown envelopes!

Just to say a big thank you to the people who contribute to this website. I recently had a form re: updates to my mental health disorder. Needlesss to say, the space given was smaller than a sheet of toilet paper, but I provided addition information and have now had it renewed for 5 years!!!! I spent weeks dreading those little brown envelopes and it in fact made me more ill.

It also gave me the confidence to challenge other areas - for instance, I had a letter from the council about slashing my housing benefit (as they said I had an excess, when in fact they didn't). They tried to tell me it was "due to the cuts" before admitting that they weren't sure what the new levels would be. It now appears that they have been underpaying my housing benefit for over two years so it is getting adjusted. Hopefully I will get a refund, which will come in use when they cut it again!!!!

Once again, my deepest gratitude. You are all made of stars!!!!!!!

Hi lu666,

Was that your DLA three year renewal you're referring to that was only one sheet long? I've got my first one at the end of the year I'm dreading it.

Any advice from anyone on what to expect will be appreciated. Mines mental health too.

Hi Lu666
Thats Great, so glad it worked out well for you. Always good to hear good news on claims, Congratulations :) and now you can sit back without anxiety, which helps more than anything. The anxiety makes any existing symptoms worse- Physical and/or Mental Health. Ive got my next DLA-Care and Mobility (on both the above) to be reviewed again this year and the whole thing seems such an insurmountable climb :( The forms are enough to not only make depression worse but also very physically challenging, causing complete exhaustion.
I am so glad I found this website, as I am hoping when the time comes it may help someone help me to fill all the pages in correctly. I do feel with the current way things are going re changes, is going to cause so much more anxiety for those who are genuinely ill and unable to work, and when you aren't well at all, the forms themselves are a disabling task, never mind awaiting the answer, which, if negative, leaves you likely to feel higher levels of pain and anxiety of how on earth the person is going to cope with what is basically just an existence than a life. It is a very anxious time leaving your fate and future in the hands of others.
I hope that the other claimant on this blog also gains positive results and will keep my fingers crossed for you.
Take care and keep on :)ing, Tiggs
