already doing permitted work... (ESA) was created by kittykit
Hi all,

I'm currently in the assessment phase of ESA. I already do permitted work (my situation is a little different but have been through the right channels and confirmed by the DWP that my work is indeed permitted and I'm allowed to do it whilst making a claim for/receiving ESA).

So, my question is - will they still try to push me to find (more) work? Will they automatically put me in the work-related group? If so would I still have to attend the back-to-work interviews? I am literally at my limit with what I can do.. Would just like to know what to expect.

Thanks x

all work undertaken under Incapacity Benefit or ESA, whether voluntary or permitted, can be part of an assessment of your abilities at a later review. It CAN be used as evidence that you do not qaulify for certain descriptor points.
It is a definite gamble, important if you are really interested in going back to work by way of gettinga CV etc, but otherwisde, for those who are not work ready, it can end up landing them on jobseekers allowance where otherwise they might not have.
The DWP and ATOS know what the political objectives of Government are, and that it is to reduce the numbers on sickness benefit, therefore it folklows that they will use whatever evidence exists to fulfill the objective

Unfortunately, as XFACTOR, has suggested, doing Permitted Work will do you no favours with regard to a Decision on your claim.

You say you are in the assessment phase of ESA, have you completed an ESA50 form or attended the medical yet?

Hi,

I care for my sister at home doing VERY small tasks (watching her in the bath, sitting with her at dinner) so I am confident that they cannot use this against me. And I have to do it so I don't really have a choice about whether to take it up or not. And by doing it I am already compromising my own personal care, so I will reiterate this to them (I already wrote it on my PW1 form too).

I am just about the complete my ESA50 form but I am struggling with it I must admit, can't believe they want sick people to fill in this massive form, it is not helping with my health that is for sure! I have written a separate statement which I intend on sending explaining what my job entails and how it does not mean that I would be able to do any additional work on top of it.. Do you think this is a good idea?

Thanks guys!

Have you reviewed the ESA Guides in the Members area as these will help you to fill in the ESA50 based on your illness.

Also these will explain the differences between the questions on the ESA50 and the tests at the ESA medical.
