JSA effects on ESA was created by Sonya

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could help... I've been getting ESA since last year, and my husband will be finishing his degree soon. With this in mind, and the terrible job market at the moment, what effect would my husband claiming JSA have on my ESA? Given it wouldn't be more than the 'permitted pocket money' of £95 a week from 'permitted work' on my part, would things stay the same?

Or would the money he would get on JSA merely come out of my ESA?

If anyone knows the answer I'd be very grateful

Depends whether you are on Contribution Based ESA or Income Related.

If the former then it won't matter as ESA(CB) is claimed by an individual and therefore your partners income or lack of it is irrelevant.

If you are on ESA(IR) then you claim as a couple so it should be taken into account, however to what degree I don't know. You need to speak to a Welfare advisor who can go through all of the figures with you and work out an accurate figure. Failing that you can try the benefit advisor at the DirectGov site, which will give you an estimate.
