We would expect 7-8 weeks for a Decision although timescales have started to shorten.

That's great - thanks Gordon.

How do I go about getting a copy of the written assessment - didn't think to ask yesterday?

Give it a few days after the face2face and then phone DWP to request a copy. Most people get them quite promptly although we have the occasional member who was told they have to wait until after a decision is made.

A couple of queries....my sister had her PIP assessment at home two weeks ago. For some reason the ESA assessment is at a centre, which we do not understand. I had to change the first ESA assessment for her as it was at a centre where she would be seen on the first floor....no way she could do that. They sent a new appt and I phoned to request recording of the assessment - they then sent a letter postponing the appt until this week.

I have since written explaining that she cannot travel on public transport so would need permission for a taxi and would need to be seen straight away when she gets there because waiting would cause a lot of pain. They have not replied.

Since then, my sister has been unwell with a tummy bug...she is still quite unwell and has a temperature.....if I cancel will they sanction her because she is too sick to attend?

How do I get permission for her to travel by taxi....they have not replied to my letter and I did put all of this in her questionnaire so they have all the info already but clearly didn't consider all her medical problems or the fact that she is unable to sit or stand for any length of time of any relevance.

The most important thing is for you to not let events overtake you.

Re the taxi, contact Maximus and ask what is going on.

If your sister is too ill to attend on the day, then her file will be returned to the DWP, she must attend at he doctor's or request call out, ideally she needs a Fit Note or some written confirmation from her GP that she is too unwell to attend. I realise that it is normal for a patient to self-certificate during the first week of an illness but this will not be sufficient for the DWP.

Gordon,

Thanks for that. Maximus are not interested in her situation and will not provide a taxi without documentation from a doctor to say she needs it even though her GP previously wrote to say she could not travel on public transport when they last assessed her three years ago. Nothing has changed since then...they have a copy of that letter but obviously could not care less about people's wellbeing. They apparently take 21 days to respond to letters!

I cannot believe the psychological, emotional and physical stress that people - who are already unwell - have to put up with...it is shameful.

Well, regardless of how unwell she is I will get her there somehow but just let this have a detrimental affect on her health and I will take it to whoever I have to complaint wise....it is a ridiculous situation.
