PIP claim and ESA medical report

My wife rang ATOS as they hadn't called her back today and rearranged the medical for the following week between 10.30 and 12.30. They did apologise for not calling back themselves they said that her the assessment would take 45 minutes. We have decided to give a copy of the ESA report from last year as it does list all her problems and does explain about her severe pain and limited mobility and the help she needs with washing, dressing and eating.

Do the assessors usually have all the additional letters etc from Dr's, physios with them on the day?

Just to say for the record, my wife did ask if asking for a different time ie nearer 11am than 9am would constitute the one permitted change and she was told it would.

Hi again

My wife has just had a DEXA scan re. osteoporosis and her doctor wants her to have a blood test to see if she's vitamin D. deficient. The receptionist who called to say this said that there was osteoporosis in her right hip and the scan also showed curvature of the spine. Do you think it's worth getting a letter about this from her doctor to give as additional evidence when she has her home assessment or is not going to make any difference to her PIP claim?

Hi Peter,

I would expect the assessor to have read the additional evidence before they arrive but not, necessarily, to have it with him/her.

The issue with things like the osteoporosis is whether these conditions add to your wife's care and/or mobility needs. If they do, a letter confirming the diagnosis could be helpful.

Thanks for confirming that asking to have the assessment towards the end of the alloted time-frame would count as a rearrangement

Latest update.... my wife received a letter from Atos today, 26th September, for an appointment on the 6th October. Which was the day we had been given but with the time of between 9am and 11am! My wife called Atos and asked why this had been changed as she had already cancelled the one before because it was too early at 9am on the 30th September as it was too early because of her medical problems and she had had a letter stating an appointment had been made on the 6th October between 10.30 and 12.30. The man she spoke in the Scheduling Team said that the Health Professional had changed it without looking at the notes regarding 9am being too early! My wife said that she was worried about her claim as she knew you could only change appointments once. He apologised and said it was their mistake and he had put more notes on the system to show it was not my wife that had changed the latest appointment. He then made another appointment for her for the 13th October between 10.30 and 12.30 and said another letter would be in the post. This is stressing my wife considerably.
