Hi my dreaded home assessment is tomorrow and already I'm quite anxious. How long will it last for? Do I need to have all my aids out on show will the be checked things like adapted cutlery and vegetable choppers do I need them on a table with my meds to be inspected?

My wife who cares for me will be at home with me but she also has severe anxiety and is very nervous about the visit how much will she be expected to contribute and will I get penalised if she says hardly anything? We have a 14 month old son will this count against us? I wear dark tinted glasses even indoors they are prescription because of migraines will it go against me wearing these?

So my things going through my mind right now I feel like I'm on death row and my execution date id tomorrow 10.30 AM

Thanks Onestep x

Home assessment usually last about an hour.

You do not need to show your aids and appliances, they will take your word that you have them and use them.

The questions will be primarily directed at you, your wife can contribute as she feels able to and she might be asked at the end of the assessment if she wants to add any further comments, but she should not feel that she has to do anything.

If you look after your son, then you need to explain how you manage this, but if you don't then it should not be an issue.

Just explain why you wear the glasses.

Best of luck for tomorrow,

Gordon

Had my medical lasted almost 2 hours!
Quick question, she said during the medical if someone was to come and knock on your door would they find you lying on the sofa, she asked this as I said this was where I spend the majority of my time. Do they do random checks unannounced at your home now or was this simply a hypothetical question?

It's a hypothetical question, I would think that the assessor will be more interested in earning their fee for their next assessment rather than coming back to check on you :)

Hi as you know I had my f2f last Wednesday. Reading through a few forum posts is it correct that I can ring the DWP and ask for a copy of the HP report to be sent to me before the actual final decision has been made by the DM? If this is correct what number do I need to call. Thanks in advance from Onestep who at the min can't stop worrying x

Hi onestep,

Yes, you can ask for a copy of the assessor's report. We have a few members who were told they have to wait until a decision is made but most people find they are sent out with no problem.

Ring the DWP, the details are here
