18 new PIP areas announced

The DWP have announced that 18 new postcode areas will be subject to personal independence payment (PIP) for renewals as well as new claims from 23 February 2015.

The PIP reassessment areas extend to postcodes beginning: AB, BB, BD, DD, DN, EX, HX, KA, KY, LS, PH, PL, PO, PR, S, SO, TS and WF.

If your fixed term DLA award is due to end on or after 13 July 2015 you will receive a PIP claim form rather than a DLA renewal claim form.

Any DLA claimant reporting a change in circumstances which might affect their award will be assessed for PIP rather than DLA from 23 February 2015 in these postcode districts, any existing DLA claimant who turns 16 years old may also be assessed for PIP.

The full PIP timetable is available here.

I would have thought that given the huge backlog they would be trying to deal with that rather than chasing a whole new set of people. Why don't they put off the life award DLA changeover and get their house in order. If they have to extend peoples claims after their 2/3/5 yr awards as well to help clear the list then do it. I know in theory you will never have a clear list but at the minute, the backlog has left the system on the critical list. If it hasn't crashed already, I fear it will.

In any other walk of life this sort of shambles would never be allowed, but I feel that it is indicative of the governments attitude toward benefit claimants full stop.

I have just been successful in having my DLA extended in Glasgow , I also understand that DLA will be fully devolved to Scotland and I am unsure how about PIP being introduced now in Scotland.

Does anyone have more info on DLA in Scotland ?

Nick muir I'm on an in definate award too - the way I understand it is they'll only accept new claims as pip and as any dla awards come up for renewal pip will have to be applied for then after October 2015 they'll start writing to anyone left on dla within the re assessment area

I've just had (yet another) review, after I'd been told twice that I'd got my DLA for life. I'm in the EX area, so can I expect to hear from them? There isn't an "end by" date in my award, so I would hope that they leave me alone.

My guess is the high density of claimants in the areas around London would contribute to the backlog of processing claims which is highly sensitive at the moment. I watched the select committee meeting on Wednesday and Harper hinted that the ATOS backlog is indeed worse than Capita. Much of the work in EX and PL has been subcontracted by Atos - definitely to a company called Physioworld.

Hi It looks like the PMs home constituency is still not up for it yet LOL and is it me or have all the areas around London and itself seam left out of it again I know lets just scxxw the rest of the country first

I live in Dawlish which is an EX postcode but all our jobcenter and Dwp stuff comes from Newton Abbot which is the TQ postecode so how will that work

I'm in the truro tr bit strange they've not included that area

The EX and PL postcode areas cover the whole of the county of Devon and North Cornwall. A huge geographic area where ATOS hold the contract. I have counted roughly 8 assessment centres at most on the ATOS website. Claimants will have to travel long distances into the cities of Exeter and Plymouth. I suspect there will be huge backlogs both for new claimants and DLA claimants being reassessed.
