UN benefits cuts investigators arrive in UK

The United Nations has begun its investigation into the effects of welfare reform in the UK by visiting Scotland. A team of UN investigators will spend two weeks in the UK collecting evidence from individuals and organisations.

The investigators will also visit London, Bristol, Manchester and locations in Wales and Northern Ireland.

They will be looking at whether disabled people’s human rights have been violated by such things as benefits cuts, sanctions, legal aid cuts, hate crimes and cuts to social care.

More details from the Disability News Service.

There really is a point to this investigation by the UN. Sure, the government can refuse to implement any recommended changes - but if nothing else it will hopefully shed more of a light on the murky areas of the benefits system and its institutionalis ed discrimination against sick/disabled people.
There will be publicity around the UN's findings, and it is to be hoped that the maltreatment and loss of life caused to sick/disabled people by this heinous system will reach a wider audience.

This evil government are out of control.
Lets hope the UN investigators are not blinded by the Cons and their propaganda.

Quoting marie:
hi i was refused mobility, and got standard disability, they are investigating my claim after mp complained the assessment was not valid as they commented illegal acts, and they did not marry up the report with medical evidence, and at the centre they failed to apply disability wheel chairs, and they lied about my walking distance, they have made it difficult by making a 60 mtrs walk to the office, and i could not do it so thy had to move office but failed to log it down for the dwp decision makers. and they used information before my tribunal which i won in 2012. used all the old information instead of recent medical evidence. i pray God will expose all the corruption. check your rights people with mp or benefit solicitors.

I'm sorry Marie that your were treated like this, but thes idiots are a law unto themselfs they make the rules up as the go along, I can see why they ask if they can use your old claim and disregard your updated evidence.

As I stated below in a post I pray that the UN can help us.

I don't really see the point of the investigation.
With the UK being a permanent member of the UN security committee the government can ultimately veto any reports etc.
