How long will personal independence payment (PIP) awards last?

According to the DWP, personal independence (PIP) awards will last for fixed periods, but can be reassessed at any time.

Short-term awards of PIP for up to two years will be given where the claimant is expected to improve significantly.

Awards of 5-10 years will be made where changes in the claimant’s condition are possible but less likely.

Ongoing awards of PIP will only be given in a very small minority of cases where the claimant is unlikely to get either better or worse.

A claim can be reviewed at any time while the award is still in force to check that there has been no change of circumstances.
