ESA double premiums was created by Susan
Hi, could someone advice on the 'extra money because you are a career premium' on ESA can the claimant and partner both get that premium or just one? So if both are claiming carers allowance will only one of them receive the premium or will there be a double premium paid?
Thank you!

The Premium should be paid for each person receiving CA, so twice if you and your partner are both receiving CA, I am assuming that your ESA is Income Related as you need to be receiving ESA(IR) in part or in whole to receive the Premiums.

I've had criticism on another site that said I was being immoral and committing benefit fraud by being disabled myself and being a carer which has upset me. Both myself and my husband are disabled and we care for each other in various ways. They have said it will catch up with us and we will get into trouble but I can't see how this is so!?

Providing your caring activities do not conflict with your stated limitations then it is perfectly OK for you to both receive CA, as an example if you have stated that you cannot cook, but do the cooking as part of your caring then this is an obvious issue, but if, again as an example; have said that you need prompting to cook or perhaps supervision and you partner provides that, then you still with your own stated limitations and its not a problem.

Caring is not defined and can take many forms, some are physical and some are not, as long as you are providing the necessary 35 hours a week then it's not going to be a problem.

Hi Susan
Probably best to stop visiting the other site as they are giving bad advice without understanding.
Currently I am putting in a claim, with help and advice from CAB, for Carers Premium for both myself and my wife, which is perfectly acceptable.
As we are both on ESA (CB) we have an underling entitlement to CA but cannot be paid it due to ovelapping benefits. We are, however entitled to claim CP as an ESA (IR) top up which can then mean entitlement to other benefits
