TOPIC: DLA to PIP - anxious wait

DLA to PIP - anxious wait 3 months 6 days ago #195306

There are no burning questions in this post, I'm sorry. I just needed to talk about it a little.

So this year my DLA was due to expire in august, and I had the invitation to change to PIP. I filled in the form (with the help of the Members' Guide here - thank you!), and then was called for a face-to-face assessment.

I went with my mother. I took in a letter from my new psychiatrist, explaining that my Bipolar disorder was complicated by PTSD. It seemed to go okay.

Only that was a few weeks ago, and yesterday I got a standard letter saying they had all the evidence they needed.

I don't know why, but I'm finding this period of waiting to be as stressful as the rest of it. I'm barely sleeping now. Not that my sleep was up to much anyway what with nightmares, but now I wake up every half hour during the night. It's like I can't bear not knowing the worst.

There are no real questions in this post. I just needed to say it - out loud - so to speak, since I don't talk to anyone except my professionals and my mother. I see my CPN and psychiatrist again next week. This has all happened during a changeover of medication that requires a complete break of two weeks, which I think is adding to the sense of doom.

My DLA was high rate care, low rate mobility. My mother only works a minimum wage job. I just don't know how we will survive, and it's leaving me feeling so guilty for being so useless to her, when at our respective ages, she should rightly expect me to be caring for her.

Sorry for all the moaning. I'm just terrified, and I can't stop it affecting my health, making me even more useless than usual. :(

Hi and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I'm sorry this is so stressful for you :( I would expect the decision to be with you in around 2-3 weeks now.

Thank you for the welcome Mrs. Hurtyback :)

As chance would have it, I got my letter this morning, and I am so relieved!

I have been awarded the enhanced daily living, and standard mobility, which is what I received before, until 2020.

I do not think I would have got this result without the invaluable help of the members only guide here, so thank you so much, Benefits and Work. The subscription here I see as an investment in my health, and it has paid off enormously.

I also received a letter regarding my ESA, confirming my disability premium will continue (as I am in the support group).

Thank you... I am crying relieved tears. :)
