Moving from Invalidity Benefit to ESA was created by dartsmad
Some few months ago my wife won her IB appeal thanks to the great amount of help and advice on this site. Does anyone know if there is a specific timescale to be moved to ESA and more importantly will she have to go through a claims procedure all over again In addition is the verdict and evidence from the IB appeal taken into account by DWP when the move to ESA finally comes? Any advice would be appreciated

Most IB claimants are being migrated on their re-assessment date, however, there is considerable variation in this, which seems to be resulting in many being moved earlier or later. The end result is that she won't really know until she receives the initial notice letter.

At the very least, she will have to complete an ESA50 and depending on her answers, any evidence provided with it, her previous IB medical reports and any evidence provided by her GP, she might need to attend a medical assessment.

Her IB appeal result should be considered, but as the criteria for ESA are quite different from IB, it may not carry much weight in any decsion.

You can read more about the transfer process and the differences between IB and ES, in our Transfer guide im the Members Only area.

How long after the date you should have been assessed for the change from IB to ESA as my IB should have been assessed in July and i haven't heard anything. Should I be worried.

Hi Dee,

Please see Gordon's response above.

The IB to ESA migration is in a state of flux it appears.

Some claimants seem to be migrated early, some later. The plan was initially to migrate claimants when their IB review was due, but in some areas the DWP appear well behind, in others slightly ahead.

All we can say is that at some point you will be migrated - as to exactly when, it is impossible to say. It is a case of awaiting the letter to say that you will be migrated.

Pete
