TOPIC: CPAP machine - and descriptor 3 in PIP

CPAP machine - and descriptor 3 in PIP 2 years 3 months ago #139973

Male, 50, Degenrative Disc disease and sleep apnea - seen the descriptors after the assesment and now tearing my hair out. likely to have scored 2 for food prep, 2 for dressing, 2 for toilet. But I am now worried CPAP machine used for sleep apnea - i said partner has to check several times at night to ensure mask is in place, and the machine is used for 7 hours per night. I said I used a pill box so might get 1 but could I possibly get 3 for the CPAP machine and partner monitoring? Also I use a hearing aid - but really played that down at assessment - would I likely lose the points? - the aid was in for repair, but showed evidence of having one. I agreed that I could lip read and had no problem one to one. Thanks for any help, i won't take anything said as gospel of course, just need a little reassurance while I wait - felt like a criminal.

Hi and welcome to the forum. On the assumption that you are also new to the site, this link should help you find your way around.

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I liken this situation to students awaiting exam results. It's easy to worry but too late to change the outcome now. Should the decision not be favourable we will talk you through your options.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Only just noticed this and not something I had given thought to previously. I use a Cpap machinethough I dont need any help thru the night from another person. Would merely using Cpap machine entitle me to any points as an aid or appliance? In itself?

Only if the usage is relevant to one or more of the PIP Descriptors.

I use a cpap too, but I'm afraid as long as you can put the mask on and take it off yourself then it will not be given consideration, but the effects of low oxygen levels that cause memory and cognative problems will.

How should one express the memory and cognitive problems arising with CPAP use on one's PIP claim?
