You are entitled to seven days written notice of an appointment so your rejecting one with two days should not count against you.

You will need a new GP letter, the one from 2013 will not be considered, the likelihood of your request being accepted will depend in part on the Assessment Provider, ATOS are far more reluctant to grant a Home assessment than Capita, also, it will depend on the reasons why you cannot attend, they may offer a taxi if the issues are with traveling.

You can record the assessment providing you receive permission to do so and you must provide a either two cassettes recorders or two direct to CD recorders. You cannot use digital recordings.

Thankyou for your reply. I can't recall which agency now cover this area (Nottingham), it used to be ATOS but I think it's someone else now.

I didn't realise I had to provide my own recording equipment, I thought they brought it with them.

There would be no use in them sending me a taxi - my issues with agoraphobia would be made far worse having to meet a stranger and be driven there and back while so extremely anxious, I would absolutely HAVE to have a close friend with me, so they may as well be the one to drive me.

Thanks for your help.

I rang twice and was told you're in the system....I moved home and counties and that seems to have triggered the assessment. Just waiting on decision now...fingers crossed its the Support group as I've had no money for a year as am esa(CB).

Sorry you're right, this is for ESA and Maximus will record the assessment on request.

I'm really worried now. I spent £10 on a doctor's letter explaining the extreme difficulties I'd have attending my WCA at the nearest centre, and please could I have a home visit.

Now the assessors (Maximus) have written to me saying that they can't allow a home visit on the basis of the doctor's letter. Apparently it doesn't provide enough information. Even though it says exactly what I already put on my ESA50 - that I have ME/CFS and am severely agoraphobic.

They've offered to send a taxi for me, but that's no use at all, as I never go anywhere without being accompanied by someone I know and trust. The entire reason I'm agoraphobic is due to being the victim of a violent sex attack years ago, so I never get into taxis with anyone I don't know.

I've rung to beg them to reassess their decision and the manager I spoke to typed in everything I said to her on the phone and said that with that extra explanation and the file notes they will reassess the situation. But I won't hear back for at least another week, so now I'm panicking about having to face that.

Is there anybody that could go with you if they don't change their mind?

You are entitled to two appointments so if necessary you can cancel this one to give you more time, but you will need to attend the new one or have your file returned to the DWP with the possibility that they will close your claim. If you do cancel don't do it until the day before!

If they still go for an assessment at their offices then then you can involve your MP.
