Hi, I receive DLA both care and mobility components, fixed term for 5 or 6 years, about a week ago I received a letter stating that DLA is now Changing to PIP and that I need to phone up to ask for an application form for PIP to fill in and send back, wierd thing is that tearlyier this year I filled in DLA renewal form n got same rate awarded for further 5 or 6 yrs, should I have received this letter regarding PIP when only earlier this year I got DLA renewal reawarded? THanks.

Are you sure that you have received an invitation to claim PIP, if you have there will be a date by which the claim must be made? The DWP are sending letters with the annual entitlement letters informing claimants about PIP.

If you have, then you would be the first Fixed Term award that we have seen called early, however, your new award is outside the time that the transfer project is expected to take, so that may explain it.

The PIP legislation allows the DWP to invite a DLA claimant to claim PIP at any time and for any reason, once an invitation has been issued you cannot retain your current DLA award in the long term but it will remain in payment until a Decision on your PIP claim is made, providing that you meet all of the deadlines that are part of the process.

Have a look at our PIP Claim guide, in addition to explaining how to complete the PIP2 form with details of you health problems it also has details of the information you will need to make the initial phone call.
