Medical for PIP was created by Mary
Hi everyone i hope everyone is well......well i got my letter and i will be getting my medical next Monday 11th July they are coming to my home. I actually didnt request a home visit but i am glad they are coming to my home as my walking is very bad at the moment. I am really nervous but my really good friend will be with me she has been a great help to me through my cancer journey so she will be able to help if i forget anything. Is there any advice anyone can give me or is there any information on the site i can look at i want to me prepared.

Hi Mary,

I'm glad you have someone who will support you through the visit!

You should be aware that the assessor might turn up on time, early, late - or not at all!

It is up to you to decide which room the assessment takes place in. The assessor does not have the right to look elsewhere in your home (we have not heard of them asking to do so), although you might have aids or appliances that you want them to see.

It is unlikely that there will be any 'medical' in the recognised sense of the word.

The assessment will be very similar to any other, even though this is being carried out in your home. You might be asked questions relating to the form you completed but there will also be other questions entirely unrelated. Our PIP guide explains what to expect

You might want to bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future. It helps us enormously when everything relating to the same claim is kept in one place. Please come back and tell us how you get on :)

Hi everyone i have my medical Monday and its a home visit i have a cat do you think that will go against me? i cant look after him so my family and friends when they are looking after me always feed him and clean his box etc as im not able to at the moment. I was just wondering if anyone else have had any experience of going through a medical and have pets taken into account? I have had my cat for 3 years so its before i was diagnosed with breast cancer.

They may make some assumptions so you should be prepared to answer any questions about how you mange, even to provide the information whether you are asked or not.
