DLA BEING CHANGED TO PIP was created by Teresa
Hi I'm a new member on here my DLA is getting changed over to PIP, The MACMILLAN BENIFIT advisor helped me filled in the form how my condition affects me, I sent it back around 2 weeks ago & today I have Recieved a letter saying I have to have a face to face medical assessment miles away from where I live, I was in hospital October 31 having an operation on my hand which is still stitched & bandaged up, I have multiple health conditions & mobility problems, not able to get up or down stairs, & I'm now getting anxious & upset as I know I can't travel to get to this centre, the MACMILLAN lady wrote on my form to request a home visit, but it looks like It's not been noted, any help or advise would be really useful,

HI and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Did you send in a letter from your GP in support of your request for a home visit? We find that most people have little success without one.

You don't say when the appointment is, so I don't know if you would have time to get such a letter and submit it to the Assessment Provider (ATOS or Capita, depending on where you live). If you don't have time, this might be one time when using your only permitted change could buy you more time.

Is it this particular assessment venue that is the problem? Would you be able to attend a venue nearer to home?

The rules allow for a claimant to be sent to a venue that is no more than 90 minutes journey away. However, if there is a nearer centre, and you would be able to manage it, you could phone and request such a change. Make the next appointment while you are on the phone so that you can be sure it is at a time and place suitable for you.

MAy I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your PIP without having to start a new topic each time. It helps us enormously when everything relating to the same claim is kept in one topic - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

Hi pretty new to all this claim, I'm being switched from DLA- PIP I spoke to Capitol the company that are doing the assesment, & was told I couldn't have a home visit because they wasn't any, they have now made me another appointment to attend a centre in Leicester on Monday 28th at 9.15am, a good friend that helps & supports me will be coming with me, & she will assist with all my evidence, as I have Sjogren's & suffer with my eyes, my sight is poor, & my voice gets hoarse, I had an operation on my hand oct 31st, so I am limited to very little, & I also walk with 2 sticks but can only use one due to the pain from the operation. I have a long list of medical conditions that cause me a great deal of pain, anxiety, distress, & limited mobility,
All of this week I have been getting reminders about my appointment, by letter, tx, & today I got 2 phone calls, is this the usual practice for them to keep ringing people up, ?
1st time he asked me for my NI Number, & Address,
the 2nd time they asked if I was attending the assesment,
can someone please tell me what to expect when I go for this medical assesment & would my friend be able to speak on my behalf as I'm am drugged up on oramorph, 15mls weekly morphine patches , & codeine & paracetamols, & need support when being out of the house, I am worried that the they are going to turn me into a nervous wreck,
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, many thanks,

Hi Teresa,

I wouldn't worry about the phone calls etc, Capita just want to try and make sure people turn up for the appointment!

Our PIP guide explains what to expect at the assessment.
