PIP for deafness - anyone been successful?

Hi all
The dreaded PIP form has arrived - I have been claiming middle rate care DLA since 1999 for a profound hearing loss. My hearing has deteriorated over the years as I age and I am currently awaiting a hearing test to show this to include with my claim.

I will be focussing on Q8 and Q11 and going out to unfamiliar places alone due to problems hearing people and also because I now have anxiety and depression too stemming from my hearing loss and the anxieties it causes me. I wear the strongest aids available but still struggle greatly every day due to the fact I need to lipread also and the huge problems this causes me.

I plan to try to demonstrate how I meet the criteria of the descriptor and also stress the issues with being able to do tasks repeatedly, reliably and in reasonable time.
Any other tips please and also anyone been successful in securing PIP for a profound hearing loss. Thanks in advance x

Hi Nick,

I don't know whether we currently have any regular posters with profound deafness, I'm sure they will speak up if they are around.

Hi Mods - can you advise me please - at PIP tribunals can you get someone else to speak on your behalf or do most of the presentation if you like to the tribunal - ie a welfare rights advisor or do you have to do most of the answering of the questions yourself please?

A trained Representative can provide some of the answer for you and can help you to explain your problems better, but if you are attending the hearing, with or without a Representative then the panel will want to hear from you about your limitations.
