This is the first time I've written on this board, so please forgive me if I get things wrong.

I was previously on DLA, lower rate daily living, higher rate mobility. I had my PIP F2F two weeks ago, and the letter came today, 0 points for anything. As my condition (ME) has worsened since I first got DLA in 2003, I'm obviously going to ask for a mandatory reconsideration (and an appeal, if necessary).

My mind is reeling at the moment, because I've been reading so many things on your website, and have downloaded the PIP appeals guide. I can't see in the appeals guide about getting a copy of the Atos report. But people here have mentioned that. Could somebody explain the importance of getting this please? In my Pip submission, I enclosed lots of supporting evidence, and wrote in detail myself. But I didn't get a GP's report. If I get one, do I send it in with my mandatory reconsideration letter?

I'm really struggling to know where to even start with this whole process, so pointing me to relevant parts of the website would be very much appreciated.

The Decision Maker is not medically trained so they are totally reliant on the assessment report for all medical opinion on how your conditions affect your ability to complete the PIP activities. So you need a copy of this to understand how those assessing you saw your problems.

The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

You should contact the DWP for a copy of the assessment report if you have not already done so, I would phone them but again follow up the request in writing. Once you have the assessment report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and will then be able to argue against them.

Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;

"the assessor recorded that I walked 50m, I did but they have failed to document that I had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"

than their opinions

"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.

Thanks Gordon. My daughter has rung up and asked for the medical report. We'll also follow up by writing a letter asking for it, just in case they deny the phone call took place!

Is there any particular address you should send your written request to?

I'm writing to the address on my letter. That's right, isn't it?
