This may well be inappropriate on this forum., however, here goes.
For some years have been entitled to a local discount for a London Com Card which Is useful because I do not drive.
Recently the local council is making cuts. Since I reached 65, am 70 this year my mobility has detiorared. OA of both knees, no cartilage left, so bone rubbing on bone. Fractured ankle some years back, so OA of ankle. Also osteoporosis and spondylitis in spine and so it goes on... chronic pain etc. Now long story short, too old now to claim for enhanced mobility of DLA and this would entitle one to automatic renewal of com cab card. So I have to go into local town hall for a mobility assessment.
I have still been paying a yearly subscription fee although, admittedly the subscription is on a nominal amount.
Anyway am terrified to go for the assessment, it is not compulsory that I go, if I do not turn up I simply lose the right to use the card. On the other hand, t'would be a real nuisance to lose it.
Have read up on Jim Allinson's info guide which he posted some time ago about the blue badge sceme and as this taxi card is from the same accessible transport department as blue badge scheme wonder if I should think along those lines?
My main worry is do the local councils send this assessment result to DLA?

Lesley

I'm sorry but I cannot find anything about the assessment process for this.

There's no reason for them to contact the DWP, whether your assessment is successful or not.

Dear Gordon,
Thank you for looking and thanks for your reply. Your reply does alleviate some of my anxiety.
Shall just give it my best shot and back it with all my medical evidence. Can only tell them how it really is.
Thanks again.

Hi there,
I went for the mobility assessment today at the local town hall. I booked a cab and a friend came with me. I had originally been told that my taxi card was no longer active so used a local cab service.
Having read lots of advice on this site about "assessments" I took every available piece of medical evidence that I had, even dating back to 2012 when I was first advised to have a knee replacement. I took current medication print outs for the last 6 months, current hospital appointments, physio appointments, plus the letter my G.P. had signed, D.L.A. letter etc.
The assessment took about an hour and was quite stressful and in depth.
The occupational therapist said that I would hear in about 2 weeks, but she actually said she thinks it should be okay. She also suggested that I apply for a "blue badge" and to submit a form So I used the taxi card on the way home and surprise surprise, it was still active.
I used this assessment like a practice run in case "the maybot" and co decide to bring in more cuts and bring forward D.L.A. to P.I.P. assessments for us over 65 years old. Shall be 70 at the end of this year. Still prepared for the worst especially if the present government gets re-elected, it will give them "cart-blanche" to slash everything.

Just to update. Today at 1.30 p.m. I had a call on my mobile from the accessible transport department at the local council, to say that my application for renewal of my taxi card was successful. Having had quite a stressful mobility assessment just over a couple of weeks earlier was very relieved to get this news. It's just comforting to have a bit of acknowledgement to my now limited mobility because of chronic osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, and to be believed! Had to pay my annual subscription of course which is only £10.00.
It definitely helped me looking on this site and reading suggestions and advice from other people going for P.I.P. assessment etc. I did my best to not leave anything to chance. Took taxis there and home. Went with a friend, took a whole bundle of medical evidence with me back dated and most recent. Also did as was suggested to others going for other assessments and did not just talk about worst days, but told them that my condition was variable and so just told them how it really is. Shall now go ahead and apply for the blue badge which I can use when my son takes me out anywhere.
