DLA to PIP- awarded standard for both care and mobility 10 points - was on enhanced mobility with car. This was awarded by only my form and home visit for medical. I have requested mandatory reconsideration (as I have rare illness) and will submit medical evidence from Dr and consultant to try to prove 12 points for mobility and keep car. Should I challenge anything which the assessment said was wrong on the care side or just be pleased awarded standard for care and concentrate on mobility only. When I originally applied for DLA in 2000, I was awarded standard for care and nothing for mobility and went to tribunal (which took 1 year) . I was awarded enhanced for mobility and got 1 years back pay and applied for car, which I have had for the past 17 years. Without the car, I can't get to medical appointments, and I can't use public transport, which they agree as gave me 10 points. I am immunosuppressed, been on steroids constantly since 1995, 22 years. I am finding this very stressful, and don't want to become housebound at the age of 47. I have been taken off medication which I had been on for 7 years, which was a drug trial for help with my condition, but was taken off this medication due to a surgeon damaging my liver when he took out my gallbladder. I had a liver stent in for 6 months and I now have hepatitis (inflammation of the liver) and elevated liver results, so since July 2013, have not been able to go back on this medication and never will be. This was also not considered on report and should of been.

Only you can make the Decision to challenge the Daily Living Component, but if you do then you need to do it on the basis that you should score more points than what was awarded rather than issues with the report.

What did you score the 10 points for?

10 points was for mobility, which is why I want to send in some medical information to support this as they only used my questionnaire and medical assessment. 8 points was for care, but they missed a few things and I should of got more points for this as well. But the most important thing is trying to get the full 12 points for mobility to try to keep my motability car. I was going to ask my dr , consultant, and counsellor to put something in writing to support both parts of my claim. Do you think this is a good idea as they have not approached anyone for medical info and I didn't send any as I have just found your site.

Thanks

Sorry I should have been clearer, I meant did you score for the Going Out activity, Moving Around or a combination of the two.

Yes, getting your GP or Consultants to write on your behalf, you will need them to directly address your issues with completing the PIP activities.

10 points just for moving around. I am seeing my dr tom pm and was going to get her to fill in for each activity I need or scored points on (for care). And to explain re mobility 22 years immunosuppressed so can't use public transport and explain why and distance etc, with a general overview of my situation. just had first counselling session - am severely depressed and have anxiety which I now can also prove. Am waiting to hear from consultant, hopefully he can do the same. Dr has known me the longest and that won't be a problem. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

If you scored the points for the Moving Around activity the you will need to show that you cannot reliably stand and then walk more than 20m on the majority of days.

Whether you can use Public Transport or not is not relevant to the Moving Around activity it only considers the distance that you can walk.
