PIP Home visit - Help? was created by Moss
Hi Everyone,
My wife had a phone call yesterday; re, her claim from DLA to PIP she was told that she has a home assessment visit on the 9th of May (next Tuesday) we're hoping for some positive help and advise before the visit. Are there any sure-fire guidelines to follow; any tips on how to answer their questions; and things she shouldn't say or do during her assessment?
Help appreciated
Thanks
M

Moss

The PIP Claim guide has a section on the assessment at the back which also includes a list of the questions that you were likely to be asked.

As to answering the question the best tip I can give you is to not rush to answer the question, take a moment to try and understand it, they are often pushing for a specific response which may not be to your advantage.

Thanks Gordon,
I can never find the answers I'm looking for on the PIP Claim Guide; seem to be reading through reams of text before finding anything. Although we do appreciate the tip about not answering any questions too quickly.
Hoping to get some advise from members who have recently had a home assessment.

Don't be happy and chatty. Their eyes are everywhere and they don't miss a trick. Remember although they may be very pleasant and come across as very caring don't be fooled. They do not work for you and it is not your best interests they care about.

Don't be lulled into a sense that they are your best friend come round for a chat and cuppa. Don't make them one it could all count against you.

Thanks Judy,
that's the kind of information we need. I'll be with my wife throughout her assessment. I don't walk very well as I have worn away all the cartilage in my ankle. have severe arthritis, and waiting for both hips to be replaced. I just won't offer a cuppa.

Well the assessor just left us, seemed to go well; but only time will tell if my wife has passed or failed the home assessment?
The lady was very nice and had a calming manner, she asked all the questions that others have stated; when they were assessed.
She did concentrate quite a lot on the mental awareness side; even though we explained that it was more about my wifes mobility - or lack of it , that really concerned her, because her mental capacity is not that bad.
We now wait to hear from the DWP. We remain hopeful at this point.
I'd just like to thank everyone for your helpful replies; and I'll post the result on here; when we now more.
Thankful appreciation.
