Hi, my relative's 3yr ESA-SG award is due expire later this year, so I rang the DWP to find out the likely time I will be sent the new form for re-assessment, as her Appointee.

Firstly I was told the award showed on the system as running from April this year to the end of November this year, so I pointed out that she'd been in receipt of the award since late Sep.2014.

There was a brief consultation by the operator with someone else, and I was told the dates were now showing as mid-August 2014 to early August 2017, with a form (probably an ESA3) to be sent out well before that end date.

I find that quite odd, since I keep all material sent by the DWP filed away and know for a certainty the day she finished on SDA and started on ESA, and it was definitely in late September 2014.

Early August 2017 will be a full four payments before the strict definition of 3 years ( ie. 78 payments) has run it's course..

Obviously nothing to be done, but I was wondering if this kind of thing was commonplace in the system? That is, date confusion, and clipping short an award?

ps. what is a ESA3?

Thanks,
W

Reassessment dates for ESA are for advice only, the DWP are not bound by them and the can reassess a claimant earlier or later than the date held on the computer system, that said they tend to stick to the date with a new ESA50, not an ESA3 being issued about 5-6 weeks in advance of the date.

An ESA3 form is used to financially assess a claimant for Income Related ESA, so it definitely will not be one of these.

Thanks for that info. So I'll be expecting it in the last week of June, then.
Cheers.
