Hi All,

I suffered a significant traumatic brain injury in 2010 followed by several strokes and seizures.

I returned to work about a year later, but was made redundant after 2 years on ill health after 46 years continuous employment.

I suffer a plethora of physiological and psychological problems and am in receipt of higher rate of both care and mobility, both since 2013.

When I have to apply for PIP when this current award expires will I be able to use documentation and diagnoses from my last application.

One is an excellent letter from my Neurophysiologist that highlights the brain damage and the substantial effects on all aspects of my conditions and that there will be no improvement expected.

I also have further similar consultants diagnoses of other matters, Polymyalgia Rheumatica, Hemiplegic Migraine Seizures, and chronic Arthritis, to name the primary issues.

There is no recovery or cure from any of these conditions, so will the substantial documentation from my last claim be sufficient, or should I plan on trying to get further referrals from these specialists and newer documentation that falls within the 3 tear period I have heard mentioned?

It seems unnecessary to me to have to see my GP for referrals to consultants only for them to repeat their previous diagnoses?

The care and mobility awards/points were increased quite substantially last time, and with further deterioration I don't 'expect' any real issues.

I believe there is a new form that allows for more succinct answers like 'no change' or 'getting worse' or better?

Will the decision maker and HP be able to see my previous files or will this be treated as a completely new application and require going to 'DEFCON 1'

Regards

I ask this now as arranging all these appointments and confirmations of no change will probably take a year to arrange.

The care

It should be possible to re-use your evidence if your conditions and their effects are permanent, however, be aware that those assessing you often see old evidence as out of date, even if it is still relevant, so if you can provide some up to date reports or letters it will definitely help.

In principle the assessor and Decision Maker will have access to your previous information, especially if you are sent the Review form rather than another PIP2, but our recommendation is to include copies of any evidence you think is important with the new form, that way you know it will be in front of those looking at your claim and it also allows you to reference the information in the form itself.

What's the difference between a 'Review' Form, and a PIP2, and what is the trigger that prompts which is issued?

Can you direct me to examples.

Many thanks

I would throw everything you have at them. I had the AR 1 quick form and filled it out fully, it made no difference, it was as if they'd never seen my previous PIP form and award. I was downgraded.

The Review Form (AR1) covers the same 12 questions but asks whether your limitations have improved, not changed or are worse.

There are examples of the PIP2 and the AR1 in the PIP section.

The PIP Claim guide explains how to complete both forms.

Most, but not all claimants are being sent an AR1 on renewal, but a significant number are not, these seem to primarily be claimants who had the Decision revised at appeal and are receiving a new PIP2. Unfortunately, it will be difficult to prepare in advance as you won't know which form for certain until you receive it.

I keep an ongoing 'live' PIP file that has daily diaries, consultant and GP appointments.

It will be a substantial document when it comes to complete whichever form I am required to.

I will also make sure that there are recent consultant reports confirming my current prognosis regarding each diagnoses.

Judy/Gordon, many thanks.
