Start by reading the PIP Appeal guide, the Best Possible Support For Clients With PIP Mandatory Reconsiderations and Appeals is aimed at Representatives, it is useful for claimants but only after they have read the other guide first.

Hello Gordon

I just wanted to ask about filling in my response to DWP bundle. I was one point short of award. Do I just concentrate on this or make comments on al the other things in dispute which would make it a lengthy document. For example. I got 2 points for prompting when communicating with other people. I have a trained support worker to help me communicate with people because I have social support for my mental health because of overwhelming anxiety and pschosis. They had all the evidence for this. Do I just mention this or refer to all the evidence I have provided them with? They have all my medical evidence and psychiatric records. I mentioned this point in my MR but they didn't respond to it except to say they have given 2 points for prompting whereas I had pointed out it it is social support with a mental health worker to enable me to engage with people in the community and it is a social services package of care.

All the papers they sent are jumbled up and it is hard flicking backwards and forwards and there are too many to mention when evidencing things. Do I have to list every piece of evidence that backs up my claim and the page no? I started with `washing and bathing' and this has turned into two pages quoting what the assessor said and what my medical evidence says. The only thing they mention in my MR is where they have taken 2 points off me for using a hearing aid. Now they say it has to be bilaterial whereas in 2015 I was given 2 points.

Then there are also bits like when the assessor has said I 'barely spoke and looked withdrawn looking at the floor' and then goes on to say I had given a `full and detailed account of my medical history' so no sign of hearing loss at the assessment.

I feel quite ill with it all it is far too complicated for lay people. I will never be able to do it.

Your submission is an opportunity for you to condense everything that has gone before into something that is understandable and relatively short for the appeal panel, the more difficult it is for them to find information the less likely you are to be successful so if you like your submission is a précis of everything that has gone before.

I would mention any activity that you feel you should have scored higher for, if you concentrate on just the one and for whatever reason the panel does not agree with you then you may not score the extra points you need.

I know it looks complicated but it really isn't all you are doing is re-affirming the information you gave in your original form but now with the benefit of the comments made by the assessor and the DM.

Hi wolfchile
I just wanted to wish you well and hope all goes in your favour in the end. I also wanted to say re the Christmas bonus, I was awarded 9 years back pay for this so £90, I was getting it for a few years then it stopped for some reason, I would not have even known it had stopped if it had not been for a letter from DWP telling me I was owed 9 years. One thing at a time though, get your appeal done and dusted first and then pursue the bonus, they obviously do award back pay more than two years as I myself received it. Take care and all the best.

Hi just reading this and thinking how similar to when they took me off PIP last year, removed points etc, also have MH and physical as well. it was a nightmare.

I hope it helps to say i found the Appeals didn't seem to take too much notice of their report and as you say it was all mixed up and said random things to cover themselves for why they took points away, like with the hearing aid thing mine did things like change the assessors report from needing support with meds to saying I could use a box to do this, in fact some of it made no sense at all! I felt the decision maker just does all they can to agree with the decision made and not look at anything new. or disregard it. It is a horrible feeling. And they said things like i should have mentioned the therapy I need support with in my reassessment, when it is clear from my care plan. Things like that.

Anyway just to say with me I did a paper appeal due to feeling so bad, and they did up my points and I got the one you mentioned about 4 points for support with socialising- and I don;t have a support worker- so hopefully you should get that. Interesting you were scored one point off as I was as well.

So hopefully the appeals will set things straight. Kind thoughts. I hear most people don;t do a submission, if you are unable to. Although it will be good for you to get support to attend, maybe from family.
