PIP success Mandatory reconsideration no F2F

I have just had the result of my mandatory PIP reconsideration result.

I am diagnosed with several Psychological Disorders, inc severe depression and PTSD

Originally I was only awarded 11 points for daily living component and got standard rate
and 4 points for mobility and no award.

I asked for a mandatory reconsideration and have now received
19 points for daily living (Enhanced rate)
10 Points for Mobility (standard rate)
for 5 years

I can not express to people how valuable the Benefit and work guides are, especially when asking for a reconsideration.

Don't worry about appearing to repeat the same thing over and over again in every descriptor, if performing each activity has the same level of difficulty or negative impact on you and you find yourself repeating yourself, that's ok, go into as much detail as possible and remember the all important words given in the guides.

Thank you Benefits and Work, your resources are invaluable and have given me more confidence for the time I know when I will i receive the dreaded ESA reassessment forms.

Thank you Gordon.

Although I am ecstatic with my award, and got the rates that I think I was due, there are a couple of things that concerned me.

With regards to mixing with other people, I feel the evidence provided proved that the descriptor D was the appropriate descriptor, as there was Psychiatric reports to back this up
Cannot engage with other people due to such engagement causing either –
i. overwhelming psychological distress to the claimant; or
ii. the claimant to exhibit behaviour which would result in a substantial risk of harm to the claimant or another person.

However, The DM instead chose Descriptor C) Needs social support to be able to engage with other people.
As I am well and truly over the number of points required for the Enhanced rate, there is not really an advantage to an appeal, but I just feel that things should be done correctly. And I worry what effect this could have on my ESA Support group status when it comes up for renewal, if I were to leave this to stand and not challenge it.

With regards to going out, I believe either D or F would have been more appropriate and the Psychological evidence provided supplied proved that I am incapable of navigating a journey sometimes as a result of my mental health disorders and always need the assistance of another person.
But for some reason, the Decision Maker decided that Descriptor E was the appropriate one.

As I say, I am happy with the results and level of award that I have received and would not want to appeal in order to try and achieve the enhanced Mobility Award.

I just do not really agree with the couple of descriptors that I have been placed into.

Don't know what I should do, whether I should just shut up and be relieved at what I did get and not having to fight through tribunal.

We get a lot of our members who feel the same, but I am afraid there is no mechanism other than a Mandatory Reconsideration available to you to deal with these issues. An MR will look at your whole claim again, there is a risk of you losing points or it could simply award the points you already have.

I can't really comment on the Mixing with other People, that's really your call, but I can say for the Going Out activity that Descriptor (e) that you appear to have scored for and Descriptors (d) and (f) are mutually excusive, so having scored for (e) it would be very difficult to see how you could score for the others.

Hi, just wanted to mention that I too have the 4 points for needing support to mix with people, and see what you mean as it is a criteria for the support group ESA about being unable to engage with others etc. However I am in the SG due to the risk criteria (Reg 35) which may also apply to you as well. I think there are other SG criteria which may also apply to mental health, for example, task completion, for example. HTH.
