PIP application was created by Sheila Darbyshire
Hello everyone, can anyone advise me. I applied for PIP after having DLA for many years and a mobility car for most of that time. I sent a good amount of medical evidence including a detailed letter from my GP. I was supposed to have a home assessment for PIP but no appointment letter arrived. I then had a phone call from a lady who said she was in the area and was coming to assess me within a few minutes. My carer had not arrived and I told her this and that I was still in bed, and couldn't get to the door. She sounded very pleasant and told me not to worry and that she would send another letter with a new appointment. A few weeks later I received a letter saying my PIP application was denied because I 'had not attended for assessment'. I was in a terrible state - and still am. My daughter called them to explain they had made a mistake and was told to apply for Mandatory Reconsideration, which we did. The letter arrived just a few days later rejecting my claim for PIP. Are they allowed to just turn up at your house like this? I know I now have to appeal but apart from losing my husband last year, this whole experience is the worst of my life . Motability has given me 6 months before the car is taken back but I may lose my motability car after that and will be completely isolated.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

Was this with Capita? We have had a spate of these failing to attend for a Home Assessment.

You have two options going forward;

Request an appeal to challenge the Decision to close your claim, or

Make a new claim for PIP!

An appeal will only consider your reasons for failing to attend, so don't worry about issues with showing that you meet the criteria for an award.

A new claim can be made immediately, there is now waiting time.
