I'm the only Moderator on at the moment. :)

B&W is not really a chat forum. Most members come online, ask their questions and then disappear again after they get a reply.

The forum is really for members to get clarification on how some benefits work, to get help with any problems that they are having with their claims and to let us and other members know of their successful claims.

Thanks just wanted to work out if my husband would have to be made to get esa or seeing that income support would be better for us because its more would we be able to get it

Facts were I am is carer no money other than carers allowance hes about to give up self employment because of health and his dr after seeing him wrote him off for good, hes on full PIP and we live in whats called a live area for universal credits what ever live means, but is seems to me live means because were a couple and not a single person I can claim income support in our area is that what live means? trust me Ive looked it up cant find nothing about live. Just don't want to waste time filling in a form for myself his carer for income support if they then turn around and say no apply for ESA

Forgive me but I don't know how to explain this any differently, providing you are not required to claim UC then it is entirely your choice whether you claim IS or your husband claims ESA. The DWP cannot make your husband claim ESA if you are eligible to claim IS or vice versa.

Thank you very much for your time but what does Live area mean in respects to a claim from me for income support am i correct in thinking where i read online it said if your single and are in a live area you must make a universal credit claim, if your a couple you don't, would that be correct in our case given were a couple ... I'm sorry too because i cant write it any clear than that either

At the moment there two levels of roll out for UC;

- your local JC+ office supports UC with restrictions on who can claim. This is mostly single people but there are also limitations if you are claiming other benefits or are challenging a Decision, or

- your local JC+ office fully supports UC (Digitally Live) and only UC can be claimed.

If you make a claim for Income Support over the phone then the first thing they should check is whether you can do this or must claim UC instead.
