Dumped onto GP mental health was created by marnie
I have been told I may be discharged from the mental health team because there is nothing else they can do for me and am unlikely to improve. I'm really upset about it because my GP is dismissive and not very understanding. What will happen with my ESA reassessment?
It's due at the end of this year and I will have some supporting evidence but previously I've never had a medical due to the strong letter I had from my CPN and psychiatrist.

It's really not that unusual for a claimant to be "parked" by the NHS when they have reached a point when they cannot help the patient any more with the treatments available to them.

Whilst it may not help you with your next ESA assessment you should not assume that it will have a detrimental effect on it either. There is a reason that they have discharged you, it's not that you are better, they just can't do any more at this time to help you and this is something that you can explain when you complete the ESA50 again.

If your G.P is dismissive and you feel you lack confidence in them perhaps consider seeing a different GP at the same practice or another practice altogether. When you have to fill out a form just explain simply that it was felt there was no more they could do and be sure to add past copies of support letters as it is not a sure thing that these will otherwise be available to the assessors/DWP

I think that normally you're supposed to have some say in your treatment- can you ask a GP (any at your Practice if the one you see if not helpful) to be re-referred to the CMHT?

Or could you self-refer through IAPT for CBT or DBT? Then at least you will be in treatment when your ESA is reviewed.

Hi, I am in exactly the same position and also worry what this might mean when I am next reviewed by DWP. Within one week of me being discharged from CMHT I was in A&E after an overdose because I felt unable to cope and had no one to turn to. A manager at CMHT contacted me and advised that 10 years ago I wouldn't have been discharged and he said it is due to the dire state of mental health services (lack of money) that we are. My GP advised me to self-refer to talking therapies. Your GP should have a form they can print off for you to self-refer. Perhaps there is something similar where you are? I think it is run in conjunction with Mind. CMHT also advised me that GP can re-refer to CMHT at any time, although after my dealings with them I would not wish to do so. You might have a care plan that gives contact details of organisations in your area that might be able to offer you support. Take care.
