Got assessors report but no decision yet

Hi there,

I had a Pip assessment last Friday and telephoned the DWP to ask if I could have a copy of the report asap as if I'm not likely to be awarded I can start preparing for a MR whilst waiting for the decision/

I received the assessors report today. She has actually written a very fair, maybe even generous report, giving me 12 points for standard daily living and 4 points for mobility. My hope was to qualify for standard daily living only so to see so many points in the report is mightly heartening. My question is, are the DWP likely to overrule any of these points or do they generally just rubberstamp what the assessor recommends?

I work part time and only applied for PIP as I came off of tax credits last year to move in with my girlfriend who was on a high salary. We split up at the end of 2016 and when I reapplied for tax credits they rejected on the grounds that the disability element had expired because I came of the benefit. Claiming PIP was my only route to getting my tax credits back.

Therefore any award at all is brilliant news to me as it means I get my tax credits back and am still supported to work part time.

Because the assessor has given me 12 points for daily living is this likely to be in the bag now, or can the DWP overrule? I just want the wait to be over!

I would expect the DWP to follow the recommendation unless there is something significantly wrong with it such as it does not follow the law or it is seriously at odds with your own evidence, which does not appear to be the case.

Hi Gordon,

Thanks for the reply, hopefully this is all good news then. In here report she has given 2 points for six different daily living descriptors. 3 of them, washing, toilet needs, dressing she scored me 2 points for using aids with the following justification;

'Although the MSO was unremarkable he does have a diagnoses of Fibromyalgia, CFS, Pulmonary Fibrosis, heart condition and long term systematic damage from previous cancer and cancer treatment. A letter from his consultant, dated 166/03/2017, and Occupational Therapy report, dated 23/03/2017, confirms his conditions and difficulties. Therefore, he needs to use an appliance to be able to reliably manage his needs.'

I read the guides on this site which were very helpful and made sure I had as much evidence as possible going into assessment. I actually provided letters from 3 different GP's,along with a consultant hematologist, occupational therapist, my employer, and copies of recent lung function tests and ECG's, In addition to completed the PIP assessment form I also typed up a further 4 pages of a4 explaining my conditions in further detail.

I have to say my experience with the assessor was very positive. She really seemed like she wanted to help me even giving me points for areas where I didn't feel I would get them.

Just to update. I rang PIP this Friday as I'd not had anything in the post. They said a decision had been made and they read it out to me. 12 points enhanced daily living awarded, just under £1200 in back pay dating back from 28th Feb.

I'm actually over the moon, and never expected to score 12 so very happy.
Just to give confidence to any of those who live alone and/or work, I do both. I didn't think I would qualify at all and was told I had to apply as the only way to get my tax credits back, but now I will I have both, and ridicously tax credits will have to pay me even more as I know qualify for severe disablement premiums,

Mental system, now they giving me loads of money whereas before I didn't qualify for any benefit at all. Getting PIP means I will now get PIP, tax credits and housing benefit, plus council tax support. It's about a £600 - £700 difference a month, so a life changing result for me!
