ESA medical cancelled was created by Bobbi
Hi all,
Hubby asked me to post this since as far as he is concerned this forum is next to God as far as benefits are concerned.
I posted a few weeks ago that he had been sent a form to complete as his ESA support group was approaching the end of his award. I dully did this and he got a letter telling him his medical is on Monday. Yesterday he got a letter telling him not to come for a medical.
Naturally since we have had all sorts of issues with DWP he is at his wits end. He is 63 and has a progressive neurological disorder. I'm hoping that they have read through all of the stuff we sent and decided not to bother but previous experience tells me otherwise.
Can you shed some light why they would do this. The letter states "We no longer need you to come for this assessment" and " you no longer need this assessment"
I'll update if he manages to get sense from DWP on Monday.
Thanks again
Ari

It sounds like they have been able to carry out a Paper Based Review and so the appointment is no longer required.
I would check with Maximus, first thing Monday, to double check that the appointment is no longer needed. There should be a contact number on the original appointment letter.
A PBR is usually a good thing and for ESA, you cannot be found Fit for Work without a face to face happening, so a WRAG or Support Group is usually assured.
You can try asking the DWP for a copy of the report, it will be an ESA85A, but for ESA they usually don't release it until the claimant has been advised of the Decision.

Thank you so much Gordon, I didn't expect an answer till tomorrow. If this is the case it will be such a relief as it took a lot of appeals to get him into the support group. It's been a long haul fir both of us since becoming disabled. When you work all your life you really don't expect to have to fight for every penny.
Without you lovely guys we would be getting very little instead of support group for both of us.
I'll update tomorrow after he's called them.
Thanks
Ari xx

My apologies for not updating sooner.
Hubby calmed DWP as advised in his letter and got someone who informed him that this can't be right as medical aren't cancelled and besides, there is nothing from the decision maker.
He then phoned the office that would have done the medical who said that it was definitly cancelled as the report they asked from the GP negated the need for a medical and that hopefully a letter will come out from DWP soon.
Fingers crossed that he's back into the support group till his retirement. Let's face is, a 63 year old with a progressive neurological condition wouldn't exactly have any job prospects.
As soon as the letter from DWP attires I'll let you know
Thanks again

It's likely that you phoned the DWP too quickly and the assessment report, there would still be one, wasn't showing on their system.
ESA Decision are typically taking 2-4 weeks.

Hi
A quick update. We finally got hubby's decision letter today. Thank God, he's back in the support group. It didn't say for how long but I'm hoping that it will be till he retires now which is in just over 2 years.
Now here's hoping that our pip carries on when it's due for renewal especially mine as it's letting us have a car that's suitable for my needs.
