They should have notified you in advance of the 365 days expiring.

Technically you should not have to claim Income Related ESA, the DWP regularly treat ESA as if it is two benefits and not one, there is absolutely no reason, assuming you are eligible why the ESA(IR) cannot be paid from the day after your ESA(CB) stopped.
