Hi, haven't been on for a while as I thought I had completed the form fully enough in the hope that my totally deaf son would automatically have his DLA award transferred (as we say in Scotland: 'Aye, Right! :-) )

Follow on, he has to go for a f2f assesment on Tuesday where they are supplying a BSL interpreter. It is someone he is not familiar with which I am hoping will actually help as he will most probably have difficulty with her signing. In signs as in the speaking world, dialect is everything, picture a poor Englishman trying to understand the most of us Scots! :-) same with different signs in different areas.

I discovered yesterday we actually have a local Sensory Impairment team and thought I would ask for some tips. Luckily it was a lady who assisted my son many years ago and know the family well. My reason for posting is that she has told me that he won't get points for both Communication and Moving Around, points are only allowed for one of these activities. This is a blow as both very much portray the difficulties in life my son suffers.

Is this indeed correct?

Thanks

They are incorrect, they have misunderstood a rule for PIP that can limit the scoring of problems to one activity, but this does not apply to this situation as one activity is for Daily Living and the other for Nobility, so he can score for both.

That said, I would expect him to score points for the Going Out activity rather than the Moving Around one due to his deafness. Have a look at our PIP Claim guide for more details.
