DLA to PIP was created by Clare Mac
Hi there ,
I am new to the forum. I had my f2f medical on 2nd June carried out by atos in my home. I have been in receipt of DLA for a severe pelvic condition since 2001 and been in receipt of higher rate mobility with an indefinite award. Today I received a letter from Motability informing me I had not been awarded the enhanced rate of mobility and would therefore have to return my car ! I have not received my letter from the DWP yet ! I called the DWP and expressed my outright disgust that I should find out this way. They were their usual unhelpful selves and told me the decision letter had been sent out on 15th June, but they would send me another one ! I was told I had received 10 points for the mobility descriptors and 8 points for the daily living. I am just wondering whether I should pursue a mandatory reconsideration. I did tell the medical assessor that any walking causes me pain and discomfort , even very short distances. My car is my lifeline and I am devastated to lose it. I am realistic enough to know that the new descriptors were always going to be hard to score the necessary points for. After 20 years of fighting I don't know if I have any more fight left in me. Sorry for the long post but would welcome any advice.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

Only you can decide whether to ask for an MR or not.

From your post and DLA award, you problems are to do with walking so I would not have expected the changes to some of the Mobility Descriptors to have affected you.

If this is correct then you have been assessed as being able to walk 20m-50m this is consistent with your DLA award. To score higher you are either going to have to show that you cannot reliably walk more than 20m on the majority of days, or look to see whether you can score points from the Going Out activity.

Thank you Gordon for your prompt reply. Yes I figured that would be the case. I am in a very ambiguous area. I was retired on ill-health due to my mobility problems and all walking gives me pain and takes me longer than the norm. I can't self propel in a wheel chair due to upper thoracic problems. I submitted medical evidence from my GP, Consultant and Physio. I told the medical assessor all of this who never witnessed me walking. It's such a cruel system and my heart goes out to the many thousands of ill and disabled people being affected by this cruel change to the descriptors. I will have to make a measured decision when I receive the letter from the DWP.

Just so you are aware, PIP does not consider a claimants usage or ability to use a wheelchair, the test is your ability to stand and then move.
